The top-ranked National League rookie in August was New York (N)'s catcher Benito Santiago.
Last month he played in 23 games and hit .361 with 3 doubles, no triples and 1 home run. Santiago also scored 10 times and drove in 10 runs.
For 1986 Santiago is batting .291 with 12 home runs, 48 RBIs and 38 runs scored. |
 | Monday, September 1st, 1986: Clark Picked August's Best Newcomer
In August, Will Clark had an exceptional month at the plate and hit his way to the American League Rookie of the Month award.
Last month the 22-year-old Baltimore first baseman played in 26 games and hit .381 with 10 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs. Clark also scored 14 times and drove in 17 runs.
This season Clark is hitting .345 with 193 hits, 12 home runs, 121 RBIs, scored 72 runs and played in 135 games. |
