 | Thursday, July 17th, 1986: Ortiz Batters New York (N) Big Time! Junior Ortiz exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Dodger Stadium. The Los Angeles (N) catcher had a field day in the 7-6 triumph over the New York (N) Mets, finishing up with a 5-5 day and a spot in the league record book. "My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus just to see the ball and try to get a good pitch." Well, Ortiz must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat. J. Ortiz hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 8th. Ortiz is currently hitting at a .299 pace with no home runs and 9 RBIs. |
