Thursday, July 31st, 1986: Minnesota Trades Fernandez to California for Ripken
Officials for the Minnesota Twins confirmed that they have traded 24-year old shortstop Tony Fernandez, 20-year old minor league third baseman Matt Williams and 28-year old starting pitcher De Wayne Buice to the California Angels. In return, the Twins will receive 25-year old shortstop Cal Ripken and 24-year old minor league starting pitcher Doug Drabek.

This season Fernandez is hitting .281 with 4 home runs.

This season Ripken has 7 home runs and a .246 batting average.
