Saturday, June 25th, 1988: Big Day with Bat: Walling 5-5
"It was like I was hitting little league pitching again," said Denny Walling after his 5-hit performanace against the Braves. "No offense meant to Atlanta, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Shea Stadium. I'm just not too happy that we lost 16-12."

The New York (N) right fielder had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 5 at-bats.

His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Denny worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."

"That's what I'm trying to do," Walling said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it. It sure did work today."

D. Walling hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off W. Brennan in the 5th, walked in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off J. Tibbs in the 9th.

This year Walling is hitting .343 with 106 hits, 14 home runs, 53 RBIs and has scored 64 runs.
