| Breaking News | | Wednesday, September 27th, 1995: Dascenzo 1995 AL Batting Champ One of the big producers in the Oakland lineup all season was Doug Dascenzo. His .352 batting average not only led his team, but also the entire American League. The 31-year-old right fielder for the Athletics collected 198 hits on his way to capturing the batting crown. Dascenzo also scored 119 runs, socked 14 home runs and piled up 80 RBIs. | | Monday, September 25th, 1995: May Slams 5 Hits for Toronto It seemed that Toronto right fielder Derrick May could do no wrong as the Blue Jays kayoed the Athletics 13-7 today as he rapped out 5 hits in 6 at-bats. Oakland pitchers couldn't get him out as May seemed to know which pitches they were throwing.
"I think the Blue Jays were stealing signs," growled one unhappy Oakland fan.
"I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play," exclaimed the jubilant May in the postgame press interview.
D. May doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off B. Givens in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th.
So far this year May is batting .346 with 15 home runs, 73 RBIs and 108 runs scored. | | Thursday, September 21st, 1995: Star SP Barkley Signs for 1 year Team officials triumphantly announced that the Athletics and superstar starting pitcher Jeff Barkley have closed a deal that keeps the 35-year-old in a Oakland uniform for another 1 year.
Barkley will earn $5,000,000 as part of the settlement.
