It was tremendous day for Will Clark, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5 for 6 barrage.
The New York (N) first baseman told reporters after his big 5-hit performance, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well."
W. Clark singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off M. Turner in the 8th and flied out in the 10th.
In 1995, Clark is hitting .339 with 26 home runs and 106 RBIs in 133 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .399 with 54 walks and 93 runs scored. | | Saturday, August 5th, 1995: Mets Blank Rockies, Gardner Wins New York (N) was pleased to see so many goose eggs up on the scoreboard today as Mark Gardner blanked Colorado 7-0. He stopped them on 5 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts.
His skipper said, "Once he gets in a groove, he can be dynamite. He was on top of his game in this one."
