| Breaking News |  | Monday, September 18th, 1995: Gwynn Boosts Hit Streak to 30 Games The Braves won the game today, but you would have been hard pressed to find anyone talking about it. The focus seemed to be on left fielder Tony Gwynn extending his hitting streak to 30 games by going 2-for-5 in the game.
"Sure we are happy that we won, but seeing Tony extend his streak was also special," said a jubilant Atlanta manager. "He's a special player who is capable of doing some amazing things at the plate."
For the record, the Braves defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. T. Gwynn singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, flied out in the 5th, flied out in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.
Gwynn is batting .335 this year with 7 home runs, 70 RBIs and 99 runs scored. He has 219 hits in 654 at-bats. |  | Sunday, September 10th, 1995: Mulholland Records Shutout Against Philadelphia In an excellent mound performance, Terry Mulholland of the Pittsburgh Pirates whitewashed the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0 on a 4-hitter.
He said after the game, "I had my best stuff and did a good job of mixing up my pitches."
The Philadelphia manager said, "We just didn't swing the bats well today. Mulholland did a good job keeping us guessing."
In all, the Pittsburgh hurler rang up 5 strikeouts and no walks in the shutout win.
In 30 starts this season Mulholland has fashioned a 16-6 record and a 3.71 ERA. |  | Monday, August 14th, 1995: NL's #1 Player, McGwire of Pittsburgh It was a week to remember for Mark McGwire. After wrapping up a torrid week at the plate, the Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman was named the National League Player of the Week.
McGwire collected 14 hits in 28 at-bats for a .500 average. He also accounted for 7 RBIs, 4 home runs and scored 8 runs.
