| Breaking News | | Wednesday, August 16th, 1995: Number 2000 for Sax Steve Sax was bubbling over with joy, celebrating his 2000th hit in the Montreal 6-0 victory over the Astros at Stade Olymipque.
"I learned what hard work, focus, dedication and opportunity can do. This is how it pays off."
The 35-year-old second baseman achieved that milestone with 3 hits in 5 at-bats to join the exclusive 2000-hit club.
His manager said, "Steve plays the same every day and every inning - with all his heart - that's why he's such a special player."

The Astros second baseman came to the plate 5 times and collected 5 hits. It was a good day for Velarde and a tough day for St. Louis.
"I just go up there and whale away and hope it hits the barrel of the bat," he said. "There really isn't any plan."
Plan or not, Velarde delivered today -- 5-5 is outstanding in any league.
R. Velarde singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
