Saturday, July 2nd, 1988: Gullickson Holds Mariners Scoreless
Bill Gullickson of the New York Yankees really did a job on the Mariners today at Yankee Stadium I, shutting them out 11-0. Gullickson frustrated Seattle hitters throughout the game, surrendering 5 hits. He struck out 0 and walked 1 in picking up the victory.

So far this season Gullickson has compiled a 4-4 record with a 3.28 ERA.
Friday, July 1st, 1988: June's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Rijo
In June, Jose Rijo tore through the American League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 23 years old.

The young New York starter posted a 4-0 mark and an ERA of 2.28 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 27.2 innings he collected 20 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .223 average.

To date this season, Rijo has a record of 8 wins and 5 losses and a 2.48 ERA. He has appeared in 19 games and struck out 53 in 101.2 innings.

B.J. Surhoff has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 23-year-old catcher of the New York Yankees had a pretty fair bat in the American League over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Surhoff batted .517 with 15 hits in 29 at-bats, 2 home runs and 5 RBIs.

In the 1988 season Surhoff has hit .324 with 5 home runs, 32 RBIs and scored 43 runs.
