| Breaking News | | Friday, August 7th, 1998: Ellis Hurls Winnipeg to Shutout Victory
The Clerics manager was philosophical after his team was shut out by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 7-0.
"It was just one of those games, shake it off and do better next time," he said.
Robert Ellis blanked them on 3 hits with 4 walks and 11 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs. They were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Ellis said.
"I set them up pretty good, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
In the 1998 season Ellis has 7 wins and 12 losses and a 2.83 ERA. |
| Wednesday, July 22nd, 1998: Ellis Superb Against Corpus Christi
Robert Ellis came out firing strikes and when the game ended, the Blue Bombers hurler had struck out 6 in leading Winnipeg over the Corpus Christi Supernovas 8-0. Ellis allowed just 4 hits in the ballgame.
Currently Ellis has a record of 5-12 with 110 strikeouts and 37 walks in 121.2 innings and a 3.18 ERA.

| Wednesday, July 8th, 1998: Career Over for Vladimir Nunez
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were jolted today by some terrible news -- Vladimir Nunez's baseball career has come to an end as the result of a torn back muscle. The club's GM told reporters, "We were all stunned. Injuries are a part of the game, but you never get used to this kind of devastating news."
The Blue Bombers reliever was injured today throwing a pitch in a game against the Hialeah Schooners.
This year Nunez is 0-and-2 with 12 saves and a 2.03 ERA. He has given up 24 hits in 26.2 innings with 19 strikeouts.
