| Breaking News |  | Thursday, June 16th, 1988: Vukovich Cracks 5 Hits
It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for George Vukovich -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage and really shined on the diamond at Wichita Grounds, but the performance lost a little glitter when the Sluggers were downed 8-6 by the Norfolk Express.
After his sparkling batting performance the Wichita right fielder told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His batting theory paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. "I just wish we had added a win in the record book today, too."
G. Vukovich singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This year Vukovich is batting .331 with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs. |

Not known for his offensive prowess, Ryne Sandberg set the league afire in April and took home the Sub League 2 Batter of the Month award.
The Wichita second baseman posted a steady .385 batting average, 8 home runs, 26 RBIs and 32 runs.

| Monday, April 11th, 1988: Star of the Week Awarded in SL2
At the age of 28, Ryne Sandberg might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Wichita second baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days collecting the Sub League 2 Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 13 hits in 26 at-bats, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs last week in 7 games.
