| Breaking News |  | Thursday, August 13th, 1998: 28-Game Streak Ends, Merloni Hitless Aurora brought Lou Merloni's hitting spree to a screeching halt today in its 8-3 victory over Belgrade at Ponies Ballpark. The Sonics mound staff snapped the 27-year-old second baseman's hitting streak at 28 games. Merloni failed to get a hit in 3 at-bats to end it.
Merloni is presently batting .313 with 8 home runs, 55 runs scored and 66 RBIs. His OBP is .390. |  | Monday, August 3rd, 1998: Norton Sticks it to SL2 Pitchers There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Greg Norton, the Aurora third baseman, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the Sub League 2 Player of the Week honors.
Norton piled up 11 hits in 24 at-bats, 3 home runs and 9 RBIs while hitting .458.
So far in 1998 Norton has hit .284 with 21 home runs and 82 RBIs. He has played in 99 games and scored 76 times. |  | Saturday, August 1st, 1998: Beltre Wins Best Bat Trophy in July Even though he is a newcomer to MLB Triple A, Adrian Beltre put up some good numbers in July and brought home the SL2 Batter of the Month trophy.
He was one of Aurora's offensive leaders with a .358 average in 27 games. He also racked up 9 home runs, 27 RBIs and 26 runs scored.
A look at his 1998 stats shows Beltre with a .304 average, 35 home runs, 112 RBIs and 91 runs scored.
