| Breaking News | | Wednesday, June 29th, 1988: 5-Hit Barrage by Sconiers 5 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book and the latest honoree is Daryl Sconiers of the Modesto Redjackets. He tore up the Norfolk Express to the tune of 5 hits in 5 at-bats in the Modesto 9-3 win today at Redjackets Ballpark.
"Sconiers was a tough out today," the Norfolk manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure."
D. Sconiers hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
In 1988 Sconiers has produced 69 hits in 200 at-bats for a .345 average with 5 home runs and gotten on base at a .427 clip. | | Saturday, June 25th, 1988: Tewksbury Shuts out Redjackets The Redjackets tried, but could not solve Newark's Bob Tewksbury, falling to the Slashers 3-0. Modesto managed only 4 hits off Tewksbury, who kept opposing hitters guessing all day. In a strong route-going performance he had 5 strikeouts and walked 0.
| | Thursday, June 9th, 1988: Modesto's Unknown Will Miss Season The doctors have spoken and Joe Unknown of the Modesto Redjackets didn't like what he heard. The 23-year-old starting pitcher is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Unknown sustained his season-ending injury during the Wichita Sluggers game yesterday at Redjackets Ballpark. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while throwing a pitch. Today the Modesto medical staff reported Unknown had a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament and would be absent from the lineup for at least 8 months.
