Edgar Renteria demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Sub League 2 Player of the Week Award.
The Newark shortstop wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .480 average (12-25) with 1 home run and 6 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.
Renteria is hitting at a .376 mark this season. His stats show 6 home runs, 35 RBIs and 49 runs scored. He has played 52 games for the Slashers.

 | Sunday, August 6th, 1995: 5-5 Game for Hinzo
Today the Napalm downed the Slashers 12-11 as Tommy Hinzo sprayed hits all over New Lexington Grounds in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
The New Lexington shortstop said to reporters in the postgame interview, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of very pretty pitches to hit today and I didn't miss any of them."
T. Hinzo singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, tripled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off R. Myers in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 9th.
Hinzo is batting .293 with 5 home runs and 58 RBIs this season.

 | Sunday, August 6th, 1995: Erstad Gets 5 Hits
It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Darin Erstad of the Newark Slashers. Erstad went on a tear at Newark Grounds and cracked hit after hit off New Lexington pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond, the 21-year-old center fielder had a career 5-6 day and something he will long remember. "Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but I don't think I'll tell 'em we lost," he joked in the BNN postgame interview.
Erstad got the accolades today, but the New Lexington Napalm walked off the field with a 12-11 win.
D. Erstad singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off W. Rosenthal in the 9th.
Erstad is batting .357 this season in 46 games with 6 home runs, 25 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 71 hits in 199 at-bats.
