One of the league's most exciting young players, Mark McGwire of the Newark Slashers earned himself Sub League 2 Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.
For the week the 24-year-old first baseman had a lofty .364 average (8-22), collecting 4 home runs, 8 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
This year McGwire has batted at a .324 pace with 67 hits, 24 home runs, 66 RBIs and scored 47 times.

 | Wednesday, June 1st, 1988: Harkey Twirls Slashers to Shutout Victory
It was a dazzling performance by Mike Harkey of the Newark Slashers. He shut out the Colorado Springs Turtles 6-0 on a well-pitched 4-hitter, ringing up 5 strikeouts and issuing no walks.
