| Breaking News | | Sunday, June 26th, 1988: Parent Belts Bunch of Base Hits Mark Parent was on fire today and the Glendale catcher was a tough out, but it was all in vain as the Rustlers fell 11-7 to the Brewers. For the game he went 5 for 5 against Buffalo in a fine hitting display.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody... and some days they fall in. We just didn't get enough hits at the right time."
M. Parent singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 9th.
This year Parent is batting .316 with 68 hits, 1 home run, 33 RBIs, 20 walks, .367 OBP and has scored 42 runs. | | Thursday, June 9th, 1988: Express Snap Jefferson's Streak at 22 His run was over, but a Glendale victory took some of the disappointment out of Stan Jefferson losing his 22-game hitting streak. The 25-year-old left fielder did not get a hit in 5 at-bats, but the Rustlers whipped the Garland Express 5-3 today at Rustlers Ballpark.
In 60 games Jefferson is hitting .329 this season for the Rustlers with 79 hits, 7 home runs, 37 RBIs, 35 walks, .415 OBP and has scored 45 runs. | | Tuesday, June 7th, 1988: Rustlers Diaz Sizzles with Cycle Hitting for the cycle is defined as hitting a single, double, triple and home run in the same game. How often does that happen? Not very often, especially considering that a cycle is a microcosm of what makes a complete hitter -- he must possess power (homer), speed (triple) and make regular contact (four hits).
Well, Mario Diaz is a complete hitter -- at least for one ballgame. Today at Rustlers Ballpark he hit for the cycle to lead Glendale Rustlers to a 9-2 win over the Garland Express. All told in the game Diaz delivered 4 hits in 6 at-bats with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
He admitted to the press in the postgame interview, "Lotta luck in hitting for the cycle. Several unique things have to come together... all in the same game."
M. Diaz flied out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off A. Beene in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th, hit an RBI triple in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
So far in 1988 Diaz has hit .277 with 6 home runs and 28 RBIs. He has played in 49 games and scored 24 times. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 45-51, .469 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 9.0 GB | | Record at home | 25-26, .490 PCT | | Record on the road | 20-25, .444 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-3, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 15-11, .577 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 18-16, .529 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 27-35, .435 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 9-19, .321 PCT | | Record in May | 15-14, .517 PCT | | Record in June | 13-12, .520 PCT | | Record in July | 8-6, .571 PCT |
