Thursday, August 6th, 1998: Off-Field Accident Sidelines Petkovsek
The Cleveland manager has confirmed that reliever Mark Petkovsek will be sidelined for approximately one week. He said that Petkovsek has an undisclosed injury, but he would not comment on reports that Petkovsek sustained the injury while pinching a nerve in his neck after sleeping awkwardly.

This year Petkovsek has 37 relief appearances, saving 1. His record is 5-0 with 32 strikeouts in 54.2 innings and a 2.96 ERA.
Tuesday, August 4th, 1998: No Hits for Singleton, Streak Ends at 21
Cleveland triumphed over Anaheim today 7-2. However, that was not the whole story. Indians center fielder Chris Singleton failed to get a hit for the first time in 21 games. Singleton went hitless in 4 at-bats and had his streak broken.

Commenting to reporters at his press conference, he said, "Some days the past few weeks I carried the club, today they carried me. No matter what, it is always good to win a ballgame."

This year Singleton is batting .356 with 68 hits, 4 home runs, 29 RBIs, 8 walks, .378 OBP and has scored 36 runs.
Sunday, August 2nd, 1998: 20-Game Hitting Streak for Singleton
Chris Singleton collected 2 hits in today's game and extended his hitting streak to 20 games. His club, the Cleveland Indians, beat Oakland 12-6.

After the ballgame, Singleton quipped to a BNN reporter, "Right now, when they throw me the ball, it looks the size of a softball. I'm pretty excited how things are clicking."
C. Singleton walked in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, singled in the 9th and grounded out in the 9th.

In his stats this season, Singleton has posted a batting average of .366 with 67 hits in 183 at-bats, 4 home runs and 28 RBIs. He has also scored 35 runs, walked 8 times and compiled a .389 OBP.
