| Breaking News | | Monday, May 30th, 1988: Renteria on Fire: 5-7 for Syracuse It was high-5 day at Ballpark of Syracuse, at least for Rich Renteria of the Syracuse Winterhawks. He got a lot of high-5's from his teammates for his outstanding hitting against the Riverside Dynamo. Renteria smashed 5 hits in 7 at-bats on his record-setting day, leading his club to a 16-7 win.
His manager said, "Rich was hitting everything. It really was a special game for him."
In the other dugout the opposing manager told BNN beat writers, "He ambushed my boys today. Obviously we didn't have much success against him, but luckily, tomorrow is another day. Hopefully it will be our day to shine."
R. Renteria singled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and doubled in the 9th.
Renteria is hitting .293 in 1988 with 2 home runs, 28 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has 65 hits in 222 at-bats and played in 54 games. | | Thursday, May 26th, 1988: Winterhawks Unknown Down and Out for Year The doctors have spoken and Joe Unknown of the Syracuse Winterhawks didn't like what he heard. The 19-year-old reliever is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Unknown sustained his season-ending injury during the Burlington Colossals game yesterday at Ballpark of Syracuse. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while throwing a pitch. Today the Syracuse medical staff reported Unknown had back spasms and would be absent from the lineup for at least 13 months.
| | Sunday, May 8th, 1988: Reid on Fire: 5-5 for Anchorage Today the Vikings downed the Winterhawks 10-6 as Jessie Reid sprayed hits all over Anchorage Grounds in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
The Anchorage right fielder said to reporters in the postgame interview, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of very pretty pitches to hit today and I didn't miss any of them."
J. Reid singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off J. Unknown in the 8th.
Reid is presently hitting at a .293 pace with 2 home runs and 17 RBIs. He has played in 36 games and scored 16 times. | | | Pitching Staff | | Role | Throws | Pitcher | W | L | SV | ERA | | | Starter | R | Joel Finch | 3 | 7 | 0 | 4.07 | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 30-52, .366 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 24.0 GB | | Record at home | 17-28, .378 PCT | | Record on the road | 13-24, .351 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-3, .400 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 10-22, .313 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 11-18, .379 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 19-34, .358 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 8-20, .286 PCT | | Record in May | 9-20, .310 PCT | | Record in June | 13-12, .520 PCT |
