| Breaking News |  | Sunday, July 10th, 1988: Baton Rouge Loses Unknown for Season
Joe Unknown will soon find out from his doctors if his season will continue. The first diagnosis was not too positive and stated the Baton Rouge starting pitcher could miss the remainder of the year. Unknown was injured while throwing a pitch in the Spearmen-Fire Ants clash at Spearmen Ballpark recently. Doctors said he has a ruptured tricep tendon and would be out a minimum of 7 months.

 | Friday, June 17th, 1988: Spearmen Chill Snider's Hot Streak
The Montrose Dazzlers lost to the Baton Rouge Spearmen 5-2 today at Dazzlers Ballpark, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Van Snider's 21-game hitting streak.
"We felt if we could slow down Snider, we would win the game," the Spearmen manager explained after the game. "They really seemed to feed off of his streak, so we really wanted to make sure they had nothing to feed off of."
This year Snider is hitting at a .333 pace with 3 home runs and 24 RBIs. He has played in 69 games and scored 30 times.

 | Saturday, May 28th, 1988: Joe Unknown Hurt, Will Miss Rest of Year
The season is finished for Joe Unknown of the Baton Rouge Spearmen. The club announced today that he will forego the rest of the year because of injury. The Spearmen starting pitcher suffered a ruptured bicep tendon while throwing a pitch in a recent game against the Arlington Fire Ants. Team doctors said it would take at least 7 months to heal.
